Don’t get confused between UGC NET and CSIR NET exam. Most of the aspirants have doubt whether they should apply for UGC NET or CSIR NET.

Difference between UGC NET and CSIR NET

There is always a difference between any two exams, even when the motto and the selection process is the same.  
UGC NET  and CSIR NET offers the same qualification.

*With the above differences, we can see the main difference between exams is in their stream. CSIR NET allows only science stream students whereas UGC NET welcomes all the other stream aspirants.

Subjects listed under UGC NET:
UGC NET Exam is conducted for 81 subjects. Where Paper 1 (General Aptitude) is compulsory for all the aspirants.
·        Candidates who belong from the non-science stream are eligible to choose UGC Net exam

Subjects listed under CSIR NET:
CSIR NET is conducted in 5 subjects, excluding the general aptitude, which is a compulsory paper for all the appearing candidates.
The CSIR NET Exam is conducted for the following science stream subjects -
  • Chemical Sciences
  • Earth Sciences
  • Life Sciences
  • Mathematical Sciences
  • Physical Sciences

  • Exam conducting authority is same; National Testing Agency.

  • Both follow one compulsory subject as General Aptitude.
  • No upper age limit for Assistant Professor.
